Soccer Coaching Drills – Winning Tactics on Trapping

Let us suppose that 50% of the Soccer Coaching Drills have focused on perfecting the trapping skills of their players. You won’t take it seriously. But interestingly, researchers say that trapping, besides dribbling and passing is mainly responsible for consistently winning matches.
When a player catches the ball and is able to maintain its possession with him, it’s trapping. In such soccer exercises, they can use their feet, chest, and thighs to do so.
It’s vital for your players to master the skill of trapping the ball. If not, they will never really be in control of the game because everything else comes after trapping the ball. There are a few practices that will prove helpful in improving the trapping skills of players.
Involve the Feet: Primarily, the coach must teach the players to use their feet in tackling the ball. In kids soccer drills, the kids must be particularly trained on using the inside of their foot. This is because the inside area of the foot id wide and very useful in engaging with the ball.
Teaching Youth Soccer Training Drills
If the players are advanced and mature, teach them to use the instep or top of the foot as well as the whole foot in trapping the ball during the soccer coaching drills. Guide the players to use their shin or ankle as the best bet to hold the ball if the ball is leaping too much.
Thigh Movement: Using your thigh to control rapid and bouncy ball is an excellent approach. Instruct the players to get in front of the ball, stand on one feet and rise the other thigh to stop the ball. Most importantly, practice dropping your knee once it connects with the ball for the ball to drop down and stay with you rather than getting away.
This activity has to be practiced regularly in order to become an expert at it by first using the knee to catch the ball and then bringing the knee down to prevent it from getting away.
Use the Chest: Just like the thigh, chest too has a vital role to play in trapping the ball flying high in the air. Teach your players to tackle the ball using their chest by getting in front of the ball and take their chest out. When they do so, the ball will instantly loose its speed and easily get down to the feet.
Nevertheless, soccer training drills should be careful not to expose young players too much to this skill. It is natural for them to use their hands in dealing with the ball while attempting to use their chest. This practice could lead to a problem by kids getting comfortable using their hands to deal with the ball.
